What You Should Know About Medical And Term Life Insurance

May 18th, 2008

Insurance is a form of risk management used mainly to soften the blow of unexpected misfortune, like death or permanent disability, of either yourself or a loved one. With so many different types of insurances available from different corporate bodies, it is your choice which type will bring the best benefits to you and your family. All insurances require a premium to be paid in exchange for the final policy that will release the total sum insured, with very attractive bonuses added-on in the final days.

One of the most popular forms of insurance is medical life insurance, better known as health insurance. Medical life policies will often cover the cost of private medical treatments at facilities for unconventional medical procedures which may cost more. Generally, this form of insurance is considered a luxury by most, although it may result in quicker health care with better facilities. Having no medical life insurance may just mean specific, sometimes necessary medical procedures may not be available to you.

Medical life insurance is normally offered by employers to those working more than six months in the company. If so, it may be voluntary which means the plan is deductible from the employees’ monthly salary and is usually up for offer after a certain period of employment, for example six months into the company. Medical life insurance information on premiums rates, coverage and add-on coverage can be obtained from the insurance companies or agents you are buying your policy from. No two medical insurance information, prices and coverage are exactly alike – while one medical life insurance may be cheaper, the coverage may be less than the other.

Coverage for this include annual health screenings, health and wellness resources, national network of medical facilitators, coverage for medical travel, quicker claims process and many other additional services.

You will also notice that medical life insurance may be regarded in a different light than other insurance forms. No medical life insurance prices are available online, for example, even though there are various plans offered from any one insurance company. This is most probably because your choice of plan may reflect your society status and may attract undue attention to you.

Another type of insurance offered is the term life insurance. Term life insurance provides protection for a stated time period – a temporary insurance that goes into effect for a limited time for a limited sum. It is probably the most uncomplicated form of life insurance and developed to provide temporary protection on a smaller, more affordable budget.

One of the qualities of term life insurance is that it can be purchased in large amounts for a relatively small initial premium. Suitable for short-range goals, term life insurance coverage can be used to pay off a loan, or providing extra life insurance protection during the child-raising years. Term life insurance has some distinct features which include affordability, particularly at the initial stages of the insurance, adjustable premiums (but never exceeding the maximum premium rate stated in your policy rate card), renewability upon policy expiry and the possible conversion to a permanent life insurance policy. However, this last feature may not be available on all term life insurances.

How To Choose Functional Bathroom Cabinets

May 14th, 2008

Whether you are remodeling your bathroom or you are building a new home, you will need to know how to choose your bathroom cabinets correctly. There are many different styles to choose from but here we are going to take a look at the size of the cabinets, storage capabilities and the type of material you should have your bathroom cabinetry manufactured from. With this type of information you can correctly choose your bathroom cabinets.

Let’s begin with the type of material your cabinets should be constructed from. Personally I prefer real wood in a bathroom because if something goes wrong in a bathroom it is usually water related. If you have plywood constructed cabinetry in your bathrooms you don’t need to worry, it will eventually dry out and your cabinets will have suffered no damage. However, if you have melamine, flake board, or press board cabinets and you flood your bathroom you, most likely, will have cabinet damage. These types of materials act like a dry sponge when it is added to water, it will expand and there is no way to fix the cabinet.

Bathroom cabinetry can be found in several different heights. Years ago the standard height for a vanity was 30", now this height cabinet is generally used in children’s bathrooms or those who need lower vanities for height reasons. Most cabinets in the bathrooms are now at least 34" in height. This keeps you from having to bend so far over. Others are going even further and having their cabinets made to the same height as their kitchen cabinets which finishes out at 36", including the counter tops. I like this level because you can gain more storage options.

With a taller vanity you can configure the cabinet to maximize your storage area. For example, there use to be a front where the sink was on the cabinets called a false front and basically it was wasted space. With the higher cabinets you can now have the cabinet doors come to the top of the cabinet giving you extra space at the bottom of the cabinet for nice deep drawers. This storage is fantastic for towels and bathroom necessities.

Exercise Induced Asthma

May 12th, 2008

Exercise induced asthma (EIA) refers to asthma that occurs only with exercise. The reported incidence of EIA varies between 5% and 20% of the general population.

During start of exercise pulmonary functions tends to be normal, but within 5 to 10 minutes symptoms of asthma such as wheezing, breathlessness, tightness of chest appear. Patient may also feel extreme fatigue. The symptoms become worse 5 to 10 minutes after the cessation of exercise.

The mechanism is not clear, increased blood flow and mediator release due to change in osmotic pressure have been proposed as probable causes.

People with exercise induced asthma have airways that are sensitive towards changes of temperature and humidity. During rest we breath through nose. Nose has a temperature and humidity control mechanism that makes air humid and at body temperature. When we exercise we breath through mouth, our respiration becomes rapid. This forces cold and dry air into the airways causing airway muscles to contract and also walls of airways become inflamed resulting in narrowing of airways.

Here are the common questions arising in the minds of people with exercise induced asthma.

What is the precaution I can take to prevent the attack?

With proper control of asthma, most adults and children with asthma call participate fully in physical activities.

If needed you should take 2 puffs of short acting reliever (one with blue cap) inhaler 15 minutes prior to exercise. This usually prevents the attack.

Is exercise beneficial for me as with rest of people?

Exercise reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity and other health related problems in asthmatic person as in any other person.

Aerobic exercise programs have shown to reduce airway responsiveness in patients who do them regularly. Studies also suggests that asthma sufferers who exercise regularly have fewer exacerbations, use less medication, and miss less time from work and school.

What are the exercise goals for asthma patients?

The exercise goal for people who have asthma, as for most people, should be 20 to 30 minutes of activity that raises heart rate to 60% to 85% of maximum, four or five times a week.

Herbal Remedies - Alternative Medicine For Asthma

May 11th, 2008

Bronchodilators are among the fastest selling drugs in the global healthcare market. Now that won’t come as a surprise considering the rate of prevalence for asthma. Today, over 300 million people worldwide suffer from this chronic respiratory disease and in the United States alone, expenses for asthma medications reached more than $6 million in 2007. Meanwhile, clinical studies have confirmed the risks pertinent to the extended use of long-acting bronchodilators, which include increased hospitalization and asthma-related deaths among asthma patients. Despite FDA mandate for adequate black box warnings in their packages, the risks of negative reactions prevail. If only an alternative medicine for asthma and respiratory conditions is available, then we wouldn’t have to contend with these severe side effects.

But then there are in fact a number of herbs and natural remedies recognized in the practice of alternative medicine for their therapeutic effects on the lungs and the bronchioles, as well as for their tonic benefits on the respiratory tract and the immune system. The volatile oils, flavonoids and glycoside compounds occurring in the medicinal extracts of the Matricaria Recutita provide excellent support to the routine functions of the lungs and the entire respiratory system. The herb is typically used as a component of herbal remedies formulated for the treatment of respiratory conditions.

Meanwhile, biochemic tissue salts are popularly administered in homeopathic medicine to restore easy breathing and ease the airways, among other medicinal purposes. Tissue salts such as the Kali Phos or the nerve nutrient facilitates breathing while Mag Phos or the nerve relaxant sustains the upkeep of open chests and bronchioles. Other homeopathic ingredients employed for respiratory ailments include the Arsen Alb which is administered for asthmatic conditions and Phosphorous that boosts the healthy intake of oxygen with the airways and the lungs.

Health Insurance Over 50 And Under 65

May 7th, 2008

If you are between the ages of 50 and 65 and you are going to be looking for health insurance or are looking for health insurance you need some help. This is a tough age (of course what age isn’t starting with the terrible twos) because you are at a prime age to start developing health problems. Statistically speaking and statistics is the only language insurance companies speak, the insurance company can predict they are going to spend more on 50-65 year old than a 20-45 year old. For that reason premiums are much higher for the older person.

But, we Baby Boomers are a smart group and where there is a will, there is a way. So let’s look at some of the options:

If you currently have a job and are looking to retire or start your own business, you have a couple of avenues you can investigate. First you can inquire if your company will let you buy health insurance through the company plan. If your company will let you do this your employer (assuming we are talking early retirement) may subsidize part of your premiums. If not, you still get group rates which are a whole lot cheaper than individual rates. If you are married and your spouse is still working strongly consider adding yourself to his/her plan if that option is available to you.

The next option (if you currently have a job which provides health insurance) is COBRA or Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. COBRA lets former employees and their dependents continue their employer’s group coverage for up to 18 months. The best thing about COBRA is it is guaranteed. Your former employer’s insurer can’t turn you down even if you have a chronic medical condition. The worst thing about COBRA is the cost. Your employer generally covers 70% or more of your health insurance premium. With COBRA you have to pay the whole premium plus administrative costs. Industry surveys indicate based on an average premium (for 2007), a former employee would have to pay more than $373 a month for individual coverage and more than $1,008 a month for family coverage.

If you are not currently employed by a company who provides health insurance there are still choices for you. If you have pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure you can receive coverage through a state high-risk health program designed to help those with medical conditions that prevent them from getting insurance. Again though like COBRA the premiums can be quite high.
